When you’re on a journey toward being more of yourself, and working on goals that are meaningful to you, it’s inevitable that you’ll face challenges, setbacks, and yes, even failures. What’s truly important is the ability to keep going in the face of those setbacks. And beyond that, doing so with something called resilience. I recently completed another coaching certification specifically on this topic as part of my ICF (International Coaching Federation) continuing education requirements, so I’m very excited to talk about this topic.
Resilience is the ability to bounce back and forward no matter what comes your way. It’s not simply holding fast and refusing to crumble: it’s the choice to bend with the flow of what comes your way while standing firm, being rooted and grounded like a reed in a river.
It has a lot in common with grit and perseverance, but it isn’t the same, and if you identify as a high achiever, it’s important to know the difference. Because you probably have incredible strength and stamina. But what happens when you fail, or face a roadblock? What happens when a year like 2020 alters all of your plans, and you have no control over what follows?
Watch the video to learn more about some small steps you can take to strengthen your resilience.
