As part of the ongoing series, “The Power of Routines”, Pamela Biasca Losada Health Coach recently interviewed Carrie Dale , co-owner of Paths to Wellness, to learn about routine habits she promotes for herself and her business.
Pamela: Why is creating balance important to you?
Carrie: "Creating balance is the cornerstone of my routine to good health. I strive for a healthy balance in my sleep, nutrition, exercise, work and play."
Pamela: How do you accomplish your goals?
Carrie: "Starting the day with a good night’s sleep is paramount to my well-being. Proper sleep is one of the pillars to good health, as it is restorative to our mental and physical health. I normally achieve 7-8 hours of sleep a day and believe that it plays a vital role in my productivity and my quality of life.
A balanced diet is important to my overall health. I tend to eat several small meals throughout the day because I don’t perform well after a heavy meal. I choose foods that provide me with the energy required to function at an optimal level. Fruits, vegetables, yogurt, nuts and protein provide me with the fuel that I need. Knowing the importance of drinking water, I start and end each day with a glass of water. I also always make it a priority to have a glass of water near my work station at all times.
Exercise is a ritual for me. Daily power walks have been a staple in my life for decades. I usually walk 1-3 miles per day. These walks have been a major component in maintaining my weight, improving my mood, and keeping me healthy. Normally I'll take Bentley, my beautiful Golden Retriever, on my daily walks to give me companionship and more incentive! Yoga is another important component to my health routine. I attend a vigorous, 75-minute vinyasa flow twice a week and firmly believe that yoga is magical for the mind, body and spirit.
Of the many definitions of balance, Webster’s dictionary includes: “mental and emotional steadiness”, “physical equilibrium”, and my favorite, “to bring into harmony or proportion”.”
