Doing versus Being: How does busyness affect boundaries?

In my last video, I spoke about patterns of busyness - of doing more than being. One interesting outcome of struggling with busyness - one that I’ve observed in many high achievers - is a difficulty in setting and keeping strong boundaries.

Sometimes it is out of people-pleasing tendencies; other times, it is out of this need to stay busy. Or, it can even be out of a true desire to do a lot - one that can get taken advantage of a little too easily. Whatever your reason, you’ll know that you’ve exceeded your limits when you feel it.

These sensations can show up in the form of exhaustion, feeling rushed or confused, getting sick more easily, general overwhelm, and even, in extreme cases, burnout. If this resonates with you, and you’re a little too far past your limits, it’s important to get clear on what your limits and boundaries actually are. Otherwise, you will keep hitting the same roadblocks when it comes to achieving what you truly desire.

So if you have let your personal “fence” fall apart in the wake of constant busyness, how can you start to mend it, and rebuild - and even strengthen - your boundaries?
