Breaking Down Barriers

Identifying and breaking down personal barriers preventing you from achieving your goals is the second step to staying on the wagon. In other words, “What’s been in your way?” For some, the inability to break unhealthy habits derives from low self-esteem. To explicate, making better and more positive lifestyle choices are easier when we feel good about ourselves and believe our bodies deserve proper treatment. In some cases, the solution can be a slight change.

For example, one client was describing to me how upset going to the gym made him feel. The judgement he felt from the other members and the constant comparisons he made internally made going to the gym a dreadful experience. Together we decided he could workout in other places that were more comfortable to him such as running in his neighborhood, playing basketball with his kids, and swimming at the pool. By making exercise more enjoyable he broke down a barrier preventing him from living a healthy and happy life.

Barriers can come in different forms however the effect is the same: prohibiting your ability to live your best life. Together we can work to identify your roadblocks to help your reach your destination: a happier, healthier life.
